Extravagant Love

Feather (our live-in daughter) has been unable to work for the past four years, suffering with intractable migraines and fibromyalgia. Despite the fact that she is paying for this physically today, she blessed me yesterday with an amazing gift: a spa day! While I was out in the garden with Flyboy picking tomatoes, Feather was drawing a warm Epsom salt and lavender bath, complete with candles, spa/relaxation music, strawberry infused iced water, a towel, robe, and slippers. The dimly lit and awesomely relaxing sanctuary became my ahhh for the following 45 minutes.  Next was a foot mask (30 minutes in gel-filled booties), hands massaged in lotion and wrapped in plastic wrap, followed by a two-part facial, a complete mani-pedi, and a make-up application.  Feather knows how to spoil a girl, to be sure.  She wanted my birthday week to get off to a special start, and with very little money to spend, she got creative.  Wow! Did I feel extravagantly loved!

I am so blessed.

Feather’s gift, in its extravagance, reminds me of the words of an old Casting Crowns song:

Your love is extravagant
Your friendship, so intimate
I find I’m moving to the rhythms of Your grace
Your fragrance is intoxicating in the secret place
Your love is extravagant

Spread wide in the arms of Christ is a love that covers sin
No greater love have I ever known; You considered me a friend
Capture my heart again, capture my heart again

Thank you Feather, and thank you Jesus for the love you’ve lavished on me.

Love,
Gigi

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! – I John 3:1 (NIV)
