Lord God, as we near the day we remember the birth of your son, we are overwhelmed by your love for us, demonstrated from the beginning of creation.
In love, you wove the world together and all that is in it, including humans to steward it, providing everything Adam and Eve needed to live.
In love, you established boundaries for their good, knowing far better than they what those best interests entailed. But with just one bite, they set in motion cataclysmic consequences that changed the course of the world forever.
In love, you promised that in the course of time that you would save us from ourselves. While we waited for the Messiah, you gave us structure in the law, leadership in the kings, and kept us from destroying ourselves.
In love, when the time was right, you visited a young woman and revealed your plan to enter the world as a human through her.
In love, you lived as one of us to show us the Father, and how to love like you do.
In love, you orchestrated our rescue by offering yourself as the payment for the sins of all humankind.
In love, you led the way for us to join you in heaven by resurrecting yourself from the dead.
In love, you wait for us to join you at your return and are preparing a place for us to spend eternity together.
What an amazing story! What an amazing God! What amazing love! Might that we would walk in your love, sharing its fullness with those around us this Christmas.
For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love. – Galatians 5:6 (The Message)
